TED is a nonprofit devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading. It started out in 1984 as a conference bringing together people from three worlds: Technology, Entertainment, Design. Since then its scope has become ever broader. TEDx was created in the spirit of TED’s mission; the program is designed to give communities, organizations and individuals the opportunity to stimulate dialogue through TED-like experiences at the local level. At TEDx events, a screening of TED Talks videos — or a combination of live presenters and 15-minute TED Talks — sparks deep conversation and connections. TEDx events are fully planned and coordinated independently, on a community-by-community basis. Many TEDx events live broadcast to viewing parties around the country.
TEDx Manhattan is better known as TedX Food, its focus is ‘Changing the Way We Eat’. This year’s speakers include, Peggy Neu, creator of ‘Meatless Mondays’ and Tom Colicchio, of Craft Restaurants, and head judge of “Top Chef”, as well as:
Thanks to the generosity of Springs Preserve – a 180 acre certified wildlife habitat in the heart of Las Vegas – we’re hosting the event in a beautiful theater in a LEED platinum building. The full TEDx Manhattan schedule will be live broadcast from New York from 7.30am onwards. Being three hours behind New York, we’ll break for a family-style brunch at 10am, and local food non-profits will describe their work and mission over the meal. After the afternoon broadcast from New York, we’ll end the day with a no-host bar from 2.30pm onwards so that we can continue the conversation. We’ll fill in the details of the agenda as we get closer to the date.
We plan that the day be a celebration of the incredible contribution that our numerous local food and agriculture non-profits make to our community, and that’s why we’re highlighting their work during our brunch. We hope it will allow participants to find a non-profit with which they would like to volunteer. Naturally, we expect that the content of the main event will be informative, engaging and entertaining. We anticipate that our post-presentation mixer will allow participants to meet others who share a common interest in reshaping our food supply here in Las Vegas.
TEDx requires strict limits to the number of tickets sold, so we suggest that you purchase early! Tickets are $25.99 per person; this covers the cost of brunch, as well as coffee, tea and water throughout the day. You can buy tickets right here!
